An Edinburgh insurance broker is swapping his suits for cycling shorts next month to undertake an ambitious 1,100 mile, nine-day solo trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats in support of Capability Scotland.

Gordon Lamb, a Senior Client Director at Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk adviser, is aiming to raise over £2300 on his ‘Miles for Smiles Odyssey’ for Capability Scotland. The money will be used to help fund a play area and sensory garden at its Westerlea Early Education Centre in the capital.

Explaining his motivation for the trip, Gordon explained: “My daily commute into Edinburgh by car was nudging close to an hour each way due to congestion and roadworks. I figured that cycling to work would take the same amount of time as driving, with the obvious health benefits attached.

“I’ve enjoyed the challenge of cycling to and from work every day, but wanted to tackle something bigger. The challenge doesn’t come much bigger than the Land’s End to John O’Groats run and I’m delighted that I can support Capability Scotland with such a worthy cause.”

Marsh is supporting Gordon’s efforts through Marsh MAGIC (Matching and Giving for Involvement with Charities), which is part of the firm’s long-established Community Relations programme. Marsh Magic matches the fundraising and volunteer efforts of colleagues, for the communities and charities of their choice, up to £300 per year.
