Experts to debate risks associated with global infrastructure development
| Share

As the global infrastructure sector continues to grapple with reconciling the need for major investment with strained public sector finances and slow economic recovery, Marsh, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, will host a major conference on 11 October 2011 at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, London, to debate these challenges.

Marsh’s first global infrastructure risk conference, ‘Infrastructure Risk: Navigating Financing Challenges’, will bring together leading owners, operators, financiers and regulators in the global infrastructure sector. Among the issues to be debated by a team of global experts are:

  • Public Private Partnerships and risk allocation: Hervé JouanJean, Director-General for Budget, European Commission.
  • Financing surface transport infrastructure: including Pierre-Alain Schieb, Head of Futures Projects, OECD; and Patrick Jeantet, Executive Vice President, Keolis (SNCF).
  • Regulation - government policy and intervention: including Elizabeth McKnight, Partner, Head of EU Competition group, Herbert Smith; and Stephen Vineberg, Partner and CEO  Infrastructure, CVC Capital Partners.
  • The risks associated with the delivery of major projects: Stephen Hockaday, Director, Laing O'Rourke.
  • Revenue and the lenders’ perspective: including Mike Redican, Managing Director, Debt Capital Markets, Deutsche Bank; and Gershon Cohen, Global Head of Project Finance, Lloyds Banking Group.

Edwin Charnaud, Managing Director, Marsh’s Infrastructure Practice, commented: “The future capital and funding needs for global infrastructure investment are enormous. However, slow recovery in global financial markets and depleted public funds mean that sourcing investment is a huge challenge. Making sure that risk is understood and well managed is the key to ensuring that the global economy gets the investment needed for infrastructure development.”

Further details, including registration details, can be found on the Infrastructure Risk: Navigating Financing Challenges conference website. Journalists wishing to attend should contact Jason Groves or Eileen Mercer.
