Case study: UK county council

A UK county council approached Marsh for specialist advice and support to improve attendance levels and reduce stress. While it was already experiencing success in this area, it wanted to make further progress.
Marsh provided support on a range of fronts. We helped it to re-launch its sickness absence policy as a health and attendance policy, so it could set more positive and future-oriented goals.
We worked with the council to develop an innovative approach to its long-term illness problem, drawing on initiatives of individual case-management, work-based risk assessment and a fast-track to private medical treatment.
The result of these initiatives, alongside the encouragement of healthy lifestyles and new stress management measures, helped the council reduce absence and reduce staff turnover, with savings of £250,000 per annum and an estimated 20% improvement in productivity.
